How Baccarat helped design the 'heart' of MYS 2012

Maison Baccarat was tasked with creating a socialising space for the superyacht industry's most influential people...

As one of the world's eminent luxury boat shows, Monaco Yacht Show (MYS) is ready to cater for some of the global superyacht industry's most important and discerning people.

At MYS 2012, the "heart" of the show is a 650m² living area called the Upper Deck Lounge. The Lounge is set to host a number of high-profile meetings throughout the MYS in a luxurious setting, where a number of key industry decisions could be made.

The space has been masterminded by interior decorators Sabrina Monte-Carlo in collaboration with Italian designer Paola Lenti, the French crystal manufacturer Maison Baccarat, and the art gallery Opera Gallery.

Yachting Pages asked a spokesperson at Maison Baccarat how it approached the challenge of designing the Upper Deck Lounge for such illustrious clientele. The company's collaboration with Sabrina Monte-Carlo was, they explained, "driven by perfection and an impeccable attention to detail."

"We study our client's brief and request design to better understand each project's context, style, sizes, technical specifications, lead times and budget to better tailor our product offerings," revealed Maison Baccarat's spokesperson.

The MYS placed the responsibility of designing the Upper Deck Lounge in trusted hands. Maison Baccarat and Sabrina MonteCarlo also provide expert services for luxury projects including yachts, jets, castles, private villas, hotels, restaurants, showrooms and boutiques.

As with yachts or castles, luxury is the name of the game in the Upper Deck Lounge.

The Lounge's restaurant services will be offered by Private Dining Café courtesy of Fairmont Monte Carlo, while guests also enjoy a champagne bar offered by Taittinger. Its features also include several reception areas reserved for exhibited companies and MYS 2012's visitors.

"Our customers are sophisticated, well-travelled and they appreciate pieces with substance, refinement and craftsmanship, representing true heritage luxury," said the spokesperson for Baccarat. "They expect original, ultimate quality, created with responsibility."

Maison Baccarat's craftspeople hope that guests in the Upper Deck Lounge will appreciate the designers' "know-how in creating bespoke pieces" and the "wide range of its creations." These include a Jallum lighting range designed by artist and lighting designer Yann Kersalé.

The Jallum light wands are "a benchmark when it comes to accessorising yachts," said Baccarat's spokesperson. "The wands have a unique lighting touch due to the outstanding refracting properties of lead crystal.

"The inimitable brilliance and purity of Baccarat crystal makes the House one of the most sought-after suppliers in interior decoration for luxury yachts."

Baccarat also attributes its success to diversity, said its spokesperson: "Baccarat has, from time immemorial, been that privileged place where designers can express their talent, drawing inspiration from the magic of the brand, its heritage and DNA to create objects from the most casual to the most prestigious."

MYS visitors will be able enjoy this mixture of styles in the air-conditioned tent of the Parvis Piscine, where the old restaurant-lounge area was situated at previous years' shows.
