'No other modem allows this level of automation,'
says e3 and LinkScape

'Partnering with an industry leader is a total 'win-win' for the customer,' said David Horacek, director of LinkScape

Satellite communications are at the forefront of big advances for superyacht internet access, making LinkScape and e3 System's joint appearance at Monaco Yacht Show (MYS) an exciting opportunity for the industry.

LinkScape, a provider of internet services for superyachts, has announced that it will be joining its partner e3 Systems at a dedicated stand during MYS 2012 between 19-22 September.

With e3 Systems' specialist expertise in communications integration, the partnership hopes to offer one of the very best VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) services for the world's largest and most renowned superyachts.

MYS 2012 will see the exclusive launch of LinkScape's new Eagle UltraVSAT modem. Unlike other Internet providers in the industry, LinkScape's UltraVSAT modem was built and designed specifically for the maritime industry.

A VSAT is a satellite internet communications system for data, voice, and video used by both home and business users. A box interfaces between the user's computer and an outside antenna with a transceiver. Signals are then sent by the transceiver to a satellite transponder in the sky.

LinkScape and e3's UltraVSAT technology is innovative in that it makes it easier for superyachts on the move to switch between satellites.

According to a statement released by the firm: "no other modem in the industry allows for this level of automation together with a robust Ku band coverage [a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum in the microwave range of frequencies] of the Americas, Caribbean, and Europe."

David Horacek, director of LinkScape said: "With LinkScape's capability to deliver download speeds of over four megabytes per second (Mbps), shared and dedicated bandwidth, customised payment plans and the highest coverage available, we know that partnering with an industry leader is a total 'win-win' for the customer."

Normally if the yacht doesn't move, its crew has to reload the old satellite manually. With LinkScape's Eagle UltraVSAT, the modem automatically reloads back to the old satellite if the yacht doesn't move within 15 minutes.

The satellite sends and receives signals from an earth station computer, or hub.

Each end user is interconnected with the hub station via the satellite. For one end user to communicate with another, each transmission has to first go to the hub station which retransmits it via the satellite to the other end user's VSAT.

Practical advantages of the UltraVSAT include that the modem can be installed with just two cables from the modem to the antenna. The overall unit is very compact, fitting on a 1.75 inches tall (1U) shelf with integrated power supplies, modem and Antenna Control Unit (ACU).

e3 Systems is also excited by the merger. Roger Horner, managing director added: "We have seen how the LinkScape VSAT product combines innovation and simplicity to meet the unique demands of yacht communications.

"These are two qualities we value highly at e3 and we are sure our clients will benefit from the partnership between our two companies".
